Wayground (Quizizz) vs AI Quiz Maker

Quizizz is now called Wayground, and it has grown into a full classroom platform. AI Quiz Maker does one smaller job: a checked quiz from your own material, shared as a link, with results that show what to reteach.

The short answer

Wayground or AI Quiz Maker?

Wayground does far more than AI Quiz Maker: live and homework session modes, game features, accommodations, many question types and a library of teacher-made resources. If you want one platform for the whole year, it is the stronger choice. AI Quiz Maker is for teachers who mainly want quizzes written from their own worksheets and notes, with a second AI checking the answer key, students who never need an account, and exports to Wayground, Kahoot!, Blooket, Moodle and others.

Wayground is the better choice when…

  • You want live sessions as well as homework: teacher-led or student-paced live modes, plus Practice, Accuracy and Testing modes for assignments.
  • You want game features: leaderboards, power-ups, avatars and modes such as Mastery Peak and Team mode.
  • You need classroom tools around the quiz: accommodations like read-aloud and extra time, anti-cheating monitoring and a paper mode for rooms without devices.
  • You want a large library: Wayground's paid Individual plan advertises 20M+ teacher-created resources.
  • You need question types beyond quizzes, such as hotspot, labelling, graphing, drag and drop, or audio and video responses.

AI Quiz Maker is the better choice when…

  • You want a second AI to re-solve every generated question and flag any answer key it disagrees with.
  • You want students to open a link and start, with no student account and the name optional.
  • You want results that show the wrong answer most students chose on each question, and a reteach set made from what they missed.
  • You use several platforms: one quiz exports to Wayground (as a spreadsheet), Kahoot!, Blooket, Gimkit, Quizlet, Moodle, QTI, Word and PDF.
  • You want a simple tool with fewer settings, for quick checks between lessons.

In detail

How Wayground and AI Quiz Maker differ

Quizizz is now Wayground

If you are looking for Quizizz, it is the same company under a new name. quizizz.com now redirects to wayground.com, the homepage headline reads “Quizizz is now Wayground”, and the footer names the company as Quizizz Inc. doing business as Wayground. The help center describes the same core ideas teachers knew from Quizizz: a join code, live sessions, homework you assign with a deadline, leaderboards and power-ups. We kept this page at its old address because many teachers still search for Quizizz.

The new name reflects a much broader product. Wayground now covers presentations, interactive videos, passages, flashcards and assessments, with accommodations and school-wide plans. It is no longer just a quiz game, and comparing it fairly means saying so.

Where Wayground is clearly stronger

Running a session. Wayground offers teacher-led live sessions, where everyone moves through the questions together, and student-paced ones with modes like Classic, Mastery Peak and Team. For homework there are Practice, Accuracy and Testing modes, with settings such as start and end times, redemption questions, shuffling, AI answer explanations and an anti-cheating monitor. Paper mode even lets students answer by holding up QR cards when there are not enough devices. AI Quiz Maker has nothing comparable to that range: it has one way to take a quiz, a link.

Content and question types. Wayground's paid Individual plan advertises access to 20M+ teacher-created resources, and its help center has guides for question types such as hotspot, labelling, categorise, graphing, drag and drop, word cloud, and audio or video responses. AI Quiz Maker has nine question types (multiple choice, multiple answer, true/false, short answer, fill in the blank, matching, ordering, FAQ and written answer) and no shared public library.

Support for individual students. Wayground's plans include accommodations such as read-aloud, extra time and extra attempts, which can matter a great deal for students with learning plans. AI Quiz Maker offers reading support on the student page (the Lexend font, larger text, spacing and browser read-aloud), but not per-student accommodations set by the teacher.

Where AI Quiz Maker is different

Both tools can now turn a document or a photo of a worksheet into a quiz, so that alone is not a reason to switch. The differences are in what happens around it. After AI Quiz Maker generates a quiz from a topic, text, PDF, photo or web page, a second, separate reasoning model solves every question again without seeing the key. If it confidently disagrees, the question is marked “Check this answer” in the editor with its working, and you decide. It does not replace reading the quiz yourself, but it catches the slips that are easy to miss when skimming: a sign error, a wrong date, two terms that sound alike.

Students never make an account. They open the link and start; you choose whether to ask for a name, and can add a password, a closing date or an attempt limit. Each student sees only their own score and the explanations. That suits tutors, cover lessons, parents' evenings, staff training and any group that is not already rostered in a platform.

The results are built around reteaching. For each question you see how many got it right and, for multiple choice and true/false, which wrong answer was chosen and by how many. One click makes a short reteach set from the questions the class did worst on, written from the same source material.

Free plans side by side

Wayground's free Starter (Basic) plan, according to its help center, stores up to 20 resources, allows up to 100 participants per session, and includes basic question types and limited Wayground AI; features may differ by region. AI Quiz Maker's free plan includes 20 AI generations in total (not per month), up to 15 questions each, and every export format. Pro is $10 a month or $72 a year with 300 AI generations a month and up to 50 questions per quiz. Wayground shows Individual plan prices by region on its own site, so we do not quote a number here.

If your school already pays for a Wayground school or district plan, use it: you get LMS integration, school-wide reporting and support you would not get from us. AI Quiz Maker is most useful alongside it, as the place where the questions are written and checked.

Use both

Write it here, run it in Wayground

Wayground accepts questions from a spreadsheet that follows its template, so you can generate and check a quiz in AI Quiz Maker and then run it with Wayground's game and homework modes.

  1. 1

    Generate and check

Make the quiz from your material, then review anything flagged “Check this answer”. Multiple choice and true/false travel best.

  2. 2

    Export the spreadsheet

Open Download / Export and choose the Wayground (Quizizz) option under game platforms. You get an .xlsx spreadsheet of your questions and answers.

  3. 3

    Import it in Wayground

In Wayground's creator choose Import worksheets/questions, then the spreadsheet option. Compare the columns with Wayground's current template if anything does not map.

  4. 4

    Start or assign

Pick a live mode or assign it as homework, exactly as you would with any other Wayground quiz.

Once imported, the quiz is a separate copy in Wayground: edits here do not follow it and Wayground results do not come back. Question types Wayground's importer does not accept may be dropped, so preview it before students see it.

Wayground vs AI Quiz Maker: questions

¿Tienes preguntas? Tenemos respuestas.

Yes. Quizizz now trades as Wayground: quizizz.com redirects to wayground.com, whose homepage reads “Quizizz is now Wayground”, and the company is Quizizz Inc. doing business as Wayground.

Yes. The Wayground (Quizizz) option in Download / Export gives you an .xlsx spreadsheet, and Wayground can import questions from a spreadsheet that follows its template. Multiple choice and true/false travel best; check the import before you assign it.

Mainly for three things: a second AI that re-solves every generated question and flags answer keys it disagrees with, a quiz link students take with no account, and results that show the most common wrong answer with a one-click reteach set. If you need live game modes, accommodations or a big resource library, Wayground is the stronger tool.

For AI Quiz Maker, no: students open the link, and asking for a name can be off, optional or required. Wayground's student join guide starts with signing in to a Wayground student account before entering the code.

No. AI Quiz Maker quizzes are self-paced links with no live, teacher-paced mode, leaderboard or power-ups. If you want those, export the questions to Wayground or Kahoot! and run the game there.

The free plan includes 20 AI generations in total, up to 15 questions each. Pro is $10 a month or $72 a year with 300 AI generations a month. Exports to Wayground and every other format are included on both.
