Your data, and your students’ data
What we store when you make a quiz, what is kept when a student takes one, and how to get rid of any of it. Written for the conversation you may have to have with a head of department or a parent.

Before you start
- Nothing to set up. This describes what already happens.
- The formal version is the Privacy Policy; this is the plain-English one.

What we keep about you
Your account (the email you sign in with through Google), the quizzes you make, and the material you generated them from. If you upgrade, Dodo Payments handles the payment and we keep the subscription status, never your card details.
Files you upload are read to pull the text out and are not kept as files afterwards. The questions made from them stay in your workspace until you delete them.

What we keep about your students
Deliberately close to nothing:
- No account, no email, no password. Students open a link and start.
- The name they type, if you asked for one. A first name is enough, and you can turn name asking off entirely.
- Their answers and score, so you get results. For a written-answer question that includes what they wrote, any mark the AI suggested, and the mark and comment you save.
- How often they left the quiz page, counted by their own browser while they answer. They are told before they start; nothing else about their device or screen is recorded.
- A random identifier in their browser, so an attempt can be tied to the device that started it and attempt limits work. It is stored as a one-way hash, and it is not a name, an email or a location.
The page where students take a quiz loads no analytics, advertising or chat scripts. That is a deliberate rule, not an accident of configuration.
If your school would rather you collected no names at all, set name asking to off when you share. You still get every per-question figure; the attempts are simply anonymous.

What the AI sees
Generating a quiz sends the content you submit to OpenAI to produce the questions. For a reteach set we send your original material, the questions the class struggled with, and class-wide percentages — never student names, individual answers or device identifiers.
To suggest a mark for a written answer we send the question, your marking points and model answer, and the text the student wrote: not their name, their other answers or anything that identifies their device. On the free plan this only happens when you press “Suggest marks”; on Pro it happens as each student hands in. Grouping questions into topics sends only the questions.
Certificates are drawn in the student’s own browser from the name they typed; nothing extra is sent or stored.

Delete what you don't want to keep
- One attempt — delete it from the quiz results. Its answers go with it. This is the tool to use if a student or parent asks.
- A quiz — delete it from your quiz library.
- Your whole account — email support@aiquizmaker.co from the address you sign in with and we remove it within 30 days, apart from records we have to keep for tax reasons, such as invoices.

What gets deleted on its own
A daily job clears out old data without anyone asking: student attempts and their answers after 13 months, quiz reports after 24 months, and the counters behind the free-tool daily limits after 30 days. Your account and your quizzes are not touched by it — those stay until you delete them.
A share link is not a private channel
Anyone who has the link can open the quiz and type any name they like. For anything where it matters who answered, set a password, cap attempts at one, and close responses when the lesson ends.
Common questions
Is this FERPA or COPPA compliant?
Those laws mostly bind schools and districts, who then pass obligations to suppliers by contract. What we can tell you plainly is what we do: no student accounts, no student emails, no analytics on the quiz page, data you can delete yourself, and automatic deletion of old attempts. If your district needs a signed agreement, email support@aiquizmaker.co and we'll talk it through.
Do you sell student data or show ads?
No. There is no advertising anywhere in the product, and student data is not sold or shared for marketing.
A parent has asked what we hold about their child. What do I say?
For a quiz shared by link: the name their child typed (if you asked for one), the answers they gave and the score, any written answers with their marks, how often they left the quiz page, plus a random browser identifier. You can show them the attempt in your results and delete it there and then.
Where is the data stored?
In our database with Supabase, with the application hosted on Vercel. The Privacy Policy lists every processor we use and what each one does.
