Share a quiz with your class

Students open one link and start. They don't make an account, give an email or install anything — which is the whole point, because chasing thirty logins is worse than writing the quiz was.

Before you start

  • A quiz you have read through and are happy to hand out.
  1. 1

    Open Share

Open the quiz and choose Share. It’s on the quiz editor and on each card in your quiz library. The first time you share, a link is created for that quiz.

  2. 2

Hand it out the way that suits the room

    • Copy link — paste it into your LMS, a message or an email.
    • QR code — put it on the board; phones and tablets scan straight to the quiz.
    • Google Classroom — opens Classroom with the quiz ready to post as an assignment or announcement.

Whichever you use, it is the same link, so results all land in the same place.

  3. 3

Decide what happens on the student's screen

Open Link settings. These decide how it feels to take:

    • Ask for a name — off, optional, or required. With a name, results are listed per student instead of anonymously. A first name is plenty.
    • Feedback — after each question, at the end, or score only. Score only is your exam mode: students see a number and no answers.
    • Attempts — leave it open for practice, or cap it at one for a test.
    • Shuffle question order and Shuffle answer choices — each student gets a different order on every attempt, so students sitting together can’t compare letters. Options like “All of the above” stay where you put them. Marking and your results are not affected.

For revision, feedback after each question teaches more. For an assessment, choose score only and one attempt.

  4. 4

Lock it down if you need to

You can set a password for the quiz, so only the room that hears it can start. You can also stop accepting responses when the lesson ends, or set a closing date. A student arriving after that sees a clear “no longer accepting responses” message rather than a broken page.

For a class test there is more in Link settings: an opening time, a pass mark, a time limit, a different set of questions for each student, and a certificate for students who pass. The guides on running a quiz as a test and on certificates walk through each one.

If a link escapes further than you meant, use Reset link. The old link dies immediately and a new one takes its place. Results already collected stay.

  5. 5

Try it as a student first

Use Preview as student to walk through it on your own screen. Previews are marked as previews, so your test run never shows up in the class results.

A link is a link

Anyone who has the link can open the quiz, so treat it like a handout rather than a secret. For anything that matters, set a password, cap attempts at one, and close responses when the lesson ends.

Common questions

Do students need an account?

No. No account, no email, no app. They open the link, type a name if you asked for one, and start.

Is sharing a paid feature?

No. Sharing is free, and so are the results for your most recent quiz. Pro keeps results and CSV export for every quiz rather than just the latest one.

Can I stop students taking it twice?

Set attempts to one. It is remembered per device, which covers normal classroom use; a determined student on a second device is not something any link-based quiz can fully prevent.

What do students see at the end?

That depends on your feedback setting. With feedback on, they see which answers were wrong, the right answer, why, and can practise the ones they missed straight away.
