An .xlsx file with one sheet named Create a Quiz. Row 1 holds the template's column headings and each row below it is one question.
Quizizz is now Wayground
Quizizz renamed itself Wayground, and its help centre now describes the product as "Wayground (formerly Quizizz)". The quiz you build there is called an Assessment, and the spreadsheet import still exists. Our export menu lists it as Wayground (Quizizz) so it is easy to find under either name, and this page keeps its old address because many teachers still search for Quizizz.
Wayground offers several ways to bring questions in, including pasting text or uploading a document for its AI to read. The spreadsheet route is the one to use with this export, because it takes the question types, options, correct answers and explanations exactly as they are in the file, rather than asking an AI to interpret them again.
What the Wayground export gives you
You download an .xlsx file with one sheet, laid out like Wayground's own "Create a Quiz" template: the column headings in row 1 and one question per row below. The template's second row, which only explains each column, is not included, so every row in the file is a real question. The question types use the template's own names, Multiple Choice, Checkbox and Fill-in-the-Blank, and correct answers are option numbers counted from 1, as the template asks.
Wayground's template has five option columns, one more than Kahoot's, so most generated questions fit without changes. If a question has six options, the export keeps every correct one and drops wrong options from the end until five remain, and tells you it did. Each question's explanation goes into the Answer explanation column, which Wayground can show students after they answer, so the reasoning written for the question is not lost on the way.
Short-answer questions become Fill-in-the-Blank questions, with the model answer and any alternative answers you accepted listed as options. Wayground's template uses the options of a Fill-in-the-Blank row as the answers it will accept and leaves the Correct Answer cell empty, which is what the export does. Duplicate answers that differ only in capital letters are written once.
Importing the file into Wayground, step by step
Wayground's help centre describes two ways in, as it read on 19 October 2026. The first: click Create and select Assessment, then Start from scratch. On the question type page, scroll to the bottom, past every category, and under Import existing files click Spreadsheet. Follow the prompts to upload the file, review the questions, edit as needed and click Publish.
The second goes through Wayground AI's import screen: select Import worksheets/questions from the creation lobby, choose Spreadsheet, and upload the file with Upload from Device. Review the list, delete any questions you don't want, then click Continue. Edit and enhance the questions as needed and click Publish to save the assessment. When you publish, Wayground asks for a name, subject, grade and whether the assessment is public or private, and saves it to My Library, ready to host live or assign as homework.
Before you assign it
Open a few questions in Wayground's editor and check that the right option is marked, especially on Checkbox questions, where every correct option must be ticked. Look at Fill-in-the-Blank questions too: the options you sent are the answers it accepts, so add any other spellings you are happy to take. Time limits arrive as 30 seconds unless the question had its own, and you can change the time for each question in Wayground's editor.
Images are not part of the file. If a question depends on a diagram, add it in Wayground's editor. Our maths questions use plain Unicode symbols such as x² and √ rather than LaTeX, so they arrive as ordinary text; Wayground also has its own equation editor if you prefer to rebuild a formula there.
The assessment in Wayground is a separate copy. Results from Wayground stay in Wayground, and later edits here do not follow it. If you would rather keep the explanations, answer check and per-question results in one place, share the quiz link from AI Quiz Maker instead, which students open without an account.
What doesn't carry over
- Matching, ordering and FAQ questions, and fill-in-the-blank questions with more than one gap.
- A sixth answer option, when a question has more than five (wrong options are dropped first).
- More than five accepted answers on a short-answer question.
- Images: the Image Link column is left empty.
- Source quotes, which are not part of Wayground's template.
- The quiz title, subject and grade, which you set when you publish in Wayground.
- Later edits and results. The Wayground assessment is a separate copy.
