The file

What the Gimkit file contains

Choose Download / Export in the quiz editor, then Platforms → GimKit. You get a comma-separated file named after your quiz, ending in _gimkit.csv, laid out like Gimkit's own .csv template: the title row Gimkit Spreadsheet Import Template, the column headings, then one row for every multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer question. A value that contains a comma or a quotation mark is wrapped in quotes (with inner quotes doubled), the way Google Sheets writes it, so punctuation in a question does not break the columns.

Columns in the Gimkit CSV
ColumnWhat it holds
QuestionThe question exactly as it is in the editor.
Correct AnswerThe text of the right answer (not a letter or a number).
Incorrect Answer 1The first wrong choice.
Incorrect Answer 2The second wrong choice, or empty.
Incorrect Answer 3The third wrong choice, or empty.

Question types

  • Multiple choice: Included. The correct choice goes in Correct Answer and up to three wrong choices follow, in the order they appear in your quiz. Extra wrong choices are dropped, and the export tells you how many questions that happened to.
  • True / false: Written as a two-answer question: the right one of True and False in Correct Answer and the other as the only wrong answer. (Files exported before 20 October 2026 marked False as correct every time; export those quizzes again.)
  • Short answer: Written with the main answer in Correct Answer and no wrong answers. Gimkit offers a second spreadsheet template with only Question and Correct Answer columns; check how the question appears in the kit and change its type there if needed.
  • Multiple answer, fill in the blank, matching, ordering: Left out of the file. The export tells you how many questions were skipped, so you can rebuild them in Gimkit by hand.

In Gimkit

Import it into Gimkit, step by step

These are the labels from Gimkit's help article on creating a kit from a .csv file (last updated by Gimkit in August 2022, so the screens may have moved slightly since).

  1. 1

In AI Quiz Maker, open the quiz, choose Download / Export, then Platforms → GimKit. Save the _gimkit.csv file.

  2. 2

In Gimkit, click New Kit on your dashboard and enter the kit's details.

  3. 3

In the kit editor, select Import from Spreadsheet in the left-hand pane.

  4. 4

Skip filling in a template (the exported file already has the columns) and click the blue Upload File button, then pick the CSV.

  5. 5

Gimkit returns you to the dashboard with the new kit. Open it and review every question before you start a game.

Why Gimkit gets the answer text, not a letter

Gimkit's spreadsheet template is simpler than most: one column for the question, one for the correct answer and up to three for incorrect answers. There is no answer letter or answer position to keep track of, only the text of each answer. The export follows that shape. For each multiple-choice question it writes the correct choice's text in Correct Answer and the remaining choices, in the order they appear in your quiz, into the incorrect columns.

That has one practical consequence: Gimkit can only hold three wrong answers. If a question has five or more choices, the wrong choices after the third are dropped from the file (the correct one is always kept), and the export tells you how many questions lost a choice. Four-choice questions export without losing anything except the explanation.

Check the import before the game

Gimkit's help article says the most common import error is information in the wrong columns, and recommends starting from one of its templates. Gimkit's own CSV templates begin with a title row that reads Gimkit Spreadsheet Import Template, above the column names, and the exported file now does the same, so the columns line up exactly as they would in the template. Files exported before 20 October 2026 started straight with the column names, which could cost the first question; export those quizzes again. After uploading, compare the number of questions in the kit with your quiz.

Then read the answers. The export copies whatever answer key is in the editor, so a mistake there becomes a mistake in the game. AI Quiz Maker runs a second answer check on generated quizzes and marks the questions where a separate model disagreed; resolve those flags before you export.

What works best in Gimkit

Gimkit rewards speed and repetition: students see the same questions several times while they earn and spend in-game money. That suits factual recall with short answers, such as vocabulary, dates, formulas, definitions and capitals, and it suits a bank of fifteen to thirty questions better than a five-question check. If you are generating a quiz specifically for a Gimkit session, ask for short answer choices and a few more questions than usual.

Questions that need several correct answers, a matching grid or an ordering task do not have a Gimkit equivalent in the spreadsheet import. They are left out of the file, and the export tells you how many were skipped and why, so nothing disappears without notice. Rebuild them in Gimkit by hand, or keep them for the version of the quiz you share as a link, where every question type is marked automatically.

One quiz, a game and a homework link

The kit in Gimkit is a copy. Changes you make there do not come back to AI Quiz Maker, and Gimkit's reports stay in Gimkit. If you want to see which question each student got wrong and why, share the same quiz from AI Quiz Maker as a link as well. Students open it without an account, and the results page breaks the answers down question by question.

There is no plan restriction on exporting. The Gimkit export, like every other format, works on the free plan, which includes 20 AI quiz generations in total with up to 15 questions each. Quizzes you write yourself can be exported as well.

What doesn't carry over

  • Explanations are not included; the Gimkit template has no column for them.
  • Only three wrong answers fit. Extra wrong choices are dropped and the export says how many questions lost one.
  • Multiple-answer, fill-in-the-blank, matching and ordering questions are left out (the export says how many).
  • Your share-link settings (password, closing date, shuffling, student names) stay in AI Quiz Maker.
  • Gimkit game results stay in Gimkit and do not appear in your AI Quiz Maker results.

Gimkit export questions

May mga tanong? Mayroon kaming mga sagot.

Export the quiz with Download / Export → Platforms → GimKit to get a CSV. In Gimkit, click New Kit, enter the details, choose Import from Spreadsheet in the kit editor, click Upload File and pick the CSV. Review the kit before playing.

Multiple choice comes across completely. Short answer arrives with only the correct answer. True/false comes across as a two-answer question. Multiple-answer, fill-in-the-blank, matching and ordering questions are left out, and the export tells you how many.

Gimkit's spreadsheet has a Correct Answer column and up to three Incorrect Answer columns, so the file stores the text of each answer rather than its position.

Earlier files had no template title row, so Gimkit could treat the first question as a heading, and true/false questions were marked False every time. Export the quiz again: the current file fixes both.

No. Gimkit's spreadsheet import has no field for explanations.

Yes. Every export format, including Gimkit, works on the free plan.
